End of Support for 4.2.x Approaching
Due to the difficulty in supporting old releases and in an effort to encourage customers to upgrade to the current release of APPX, we will be withdrawing full support for release 4.2.x (and prior releases), effective on 1st January 2014.
Release 4.2 first came out almost 10 years ago and the last patch release was in 2007. Since then, ASI has released 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2, plus assorted patch releases. 5.3 is expected before the end of the year. Each release added significant improvements and enhancements to APPX and, for your customers to get the most value from their maintenance costs, they should be planning to upgrade to the current version.
Release 4.2.x is falling further and further behind current technologies. For example, the 4.2.x RDBMS support and Appx/ODBC connections may or may not work with the most recent releases of Oracle, SQL Server and Office. If it does not, and your customer needs this capability, they will have no option but to upgrade to the current version of APPX. It's better to plan ahead and upgrade them now, rather than being unexpectedly forced to upgrade by circumstances.
So, what do we mean by the 'withdrawal of full support'? By this we mean that we will not provide any in-depth support. If you or your customers encounter a problem with some aspect of 4.2 for which we are aware of a solution, then we will be happy to assist you. However, if you identify a problem with which we are not familiar, we will recommend an upgrade to the current release of APPX rather than spend time trying to find a solution under 4.2.x
Should you need assistance or advice on upgrading then we're here to help. However, if you have any reservations about performing the customer upgrades yourself, then please contact us to discuss the possibility of using our upgrade/migration service.
